Urban Creatures

Nature in cities is fascinating, whether urban gardening, bee-keeping on rooftops or creatures living wild alongside people. Pigeons and parakeets in the parks; scruffy starlings running among people on the street and a fox on the pavement looking for scraps.  They all adapted to living in cities, and my slipware urban creatures are meant to reflect this.

I hand build birds and other creatures using white earthenware and red terracotta clays, and decorate using traditional slipware techniques or printing on the clay. The pieces are glazed using either a clear or traditional honey glaze to 1100C.
